Truro and Colchester Chamber Executive Director announces departure
TRURO – After nine years at the helm of the Truro and Colchester Chamber of Commerce, Executive Director Sherry Martell is stepping aside.
Since taking on the leadership role at the Chamber, she oversaw great changes and has played an integral role in modernizing the organization, increasing benefits and growing membership to historic highs.
A passionate advocate, Martell is moving on to serve her community at local government and to focus on her entrepreneurial ventures.
“On behalf of the board, we would like to congratulate Sherry on her years of achievement with the Chamber,” said Chamber President Eric Tanton. “Sherry has exceeded our Chamber’s expectations and has built a strong team and strong operational acumen into the Chamber office. We wish Sherry all the best with her endeavours and support of her community.”
To ensure continuity of service delivery and member engagement, Chelsea Weatherbee, Events and Special Projects Co-ordinator, has been appointed by the Board as the acting (interim) Executive Director as it begins a recruitment process to fill the role.
Martell will continue to support the Chamber team during a transition period by working on select projects and programs until the end of October.
The Board of Directors has stuck a recruitment committee which will commence a search for our Chamber’s Executive Director role over the weeks ahead.
“We look forward to filling this critical role to continue to execute against the strategic vision of our Chamber of Commerce,” said Tanton.
The Truro-based Chamber represents more than 500 businesses in the Colchester region and is the second largest Chamber in the province of Nova Scotia.
